The city of Rio de Janeiro, through Riotur, reported on Tuesday (Dec 15,2020) that New Years Eve party in Rio de Janeiro was canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even with the next turn of the year having been designed without the presence of public, without burning fires and held to be accompanied by TV and social media, but the city chose to cancel the event out of respect for the victims of the disease and in favor of the safety of all.
“When we announced the new model for New Year’s Eve Rio 2021, we talked about social responsibility. Our speech remains. But the reason for the cancellation is nothing more than a conscious and responsible decision,” said Riotur President Fabricio Villa Flor.
“This is a necessary decision for the protection of all. The feast will be the hope for good vaccine results to contain the pandemic. However, it will still be a time for reflection on a difficult year of struggle, with regrettable losses of so many people. And it will also be time to thank God for the lives saved”, concluded Mayor Marcelo Crivella.
In July Riotur had reported that the 2021 New Year’s Eve party in the city of Rio de Janeiro was suspended because there was an increase in cases of covid19.
In August Riotur had the proposal to spread light shows throughout the city, with broadcast on tv and internet. But people could follow from home lives in sights, with controlled access and no public.
The City of Rio wanted to promote a show with special lighting in the forts of Leme and Copacabana. But the duration much shorter than the traditional fireworks, 14 minutes at the turn of 2019 to 2020.
